This program was such an amazing experience that I am proud to be a part of. It raised my waste awareness and allowed me to gain experience in creating a graphic novel.

TEEN PRODUCTION COUNCIL

GOING VIRTUAL June 29 -  Aug 14, 2020!

Rising Earth’s Virtual Teen Production Council is a 7 week summer high school internship program that delivers the same quality program experience and community in an online environment.

We recognize that this year is posing a challenge and concerns for many high school students as they wonder about things like travel from their homes and gaining rewarding summer experiences. With the safety and learning of our teens at the forefront of our concerns, we are excited to have developed an online internship program that’s exciting and socially engaging while maintaining physical distancing.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: We believe that in order to create materials that are engaging and relatable for youth, then we must team up with them in order to create these materials. This summer internship taps into the voices, perspectives, and potential of creative and environmentally conscious teens--all while working with our professional team of artists and writers on actual graphic novels! Our program also helps to connect urban youth to nature and enliven their self-awareness as well as awareness of their surroundings.

Join insightful young change makers, creatives, environmentalists, and humanitarians grades 9-12, from LA and NYC, for 7 weeks. You'll get mentoring from industry experts and work with the co-founders to brainstorm, write, edit, and give art direction feedback for books from the Rising Earth graphic novel series! We’ll keep it fun with East coast-West coast mixers, games, exciting guest speakers, personalized weekly zoom check-ins, and transportive meditation and awareness experiences. And if local guidelines and your guardians permit it, we may even get to do a meet up in nature!

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work remotely with access to a computer and internet for 7 weeks of the program.

  • Must be a high school aged teen in the Los Angeles or New York area.

  • Interns will work approximately 3 hours per week in return for volunteer hours.

Deadline to apply is Monday, June 22nd.

We try to customize responsibilities according to the interests and strengths that our members possess. Here are just a few examples of how last year’s Teen Production Council made our graphic novels more relevant and exciting for teens:

  • Pointed out where pages were too congested or boring and suggested ways to improve.

  • Rewrote dialogue the way a young person might phrase something.

  • Provided insight into scenes where characters deal with mental, emotional, and social challenges.

  • Suggested art direction for coloring.

  • Proposed character studies, costume designs, and story arcs for our next book.
